Waiting For Nothing

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world”- Anne Frank

Yesterday, as I signed into my time tracking account for work, this quote stared me blankly in the face.   It resonated with me pretty deeply.  The whole idea that I don’t need to wait to make the change I want to see in the world is very powerful.

Before a week ago, that’s what I had been doing.  Waiting. Waiting for the idea, the moment, the point in time where I would find my True Calling.  One of my now most valued lessons from Seth Godin, was that True Calling is “nonsense.”  I had never thought about it that way before.  I always felt I was missing mine, that it was out there, just out of my grasp.  He helped me look at it in a completely different way.  That there is not one True Calling.  Your calling is out there, pick one, if you don’t like it, pick another one.  This took a pressure off my shoulders almost immediately.  I didn’t have to keep waiting to find that True Calling, the one I was so afraid I might miss.  No more time to wait.  Time to take action.

My real True Calling is picking myself.  Realizing that what I have to offer to the world can help make it a better place.  This realization is something that I do not take lightly.  Every person has a special place in this universe to help make a difference.  It may be scary and it may seem daunting to choose what that is.  But once you decide to choose yourself, all that fear falls away and you can finally start to do the work that makes a ruckus.
